03 March 2015

On Tuesday, March 3rd, 2015, Mr. Eduard Hellvig, Director of the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI), received the visit of Mr. James B. Comey, Director of the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), at the Service's headquarters.

The SRI leadership and its U.S. partner representatives expressed their satisfaction regarding the level of cooperation between the two institutions in areas of common interest, such as cyber security, the fight against organised crime and corruption, counterterrorism, countering espionage, as well as the training of personnel.

Additionally, the two institutions' directors discussed the way forward in their bilateral partnership, agreeing to place special emphasis on the cyber security component, where the SRI is the national authority.

The FBI director's visit takes place at a time when the regional and global stability faces grave challenges, the management of which requires, on the one hand, measures to internally strengthen the state, and, on the other hand, an intensified cooperation of the SRI with partners such as the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigations, aimed at protecting the security interests of Romania and its citizens.
